Refit & Conversion
Siewert Design can guide owners and captains through the entire refit process, providing innovative concepts for interior and exterior living spaces, creating construction drawings and bid packages, and supervising construction, assuring quality workmanship, timely project delivery, and exceptional results. Our years of experience working with shipyards bring an intuitive point of reference to begin a refit project, ultimately saving time and cost.
THE PROCESS

Step 1- DEFINE THE GOALS
The project begins with a kick off meeting or phone call to gather an understanding of your most basic needs, your wish list, a desired time frame, and what you want to spend. Determining priorities becomes very important as the objectives get matched up against the budget.

Step 2- COLLECT & STUDY PROJECT INFO
At this stage, we’ll make an inspection of the existing vessel and collect any relevant accurate information about the yacht and its condition: builders materials and constraints are assessed and flag authority's regulations are investigated. Any existing CAD plans, profile, and elevations are gathered based on the builders drawings. If needed, a measured site survey and laser scan can be conducted to further the needed information database.

Step 3- DESIGN OPTIONS
During the concept stage, a number of design options are explored to meet your goals and an estimated project scope. These are presented in the form of free-hand sketched perspectives, simple 3D renderings, room or space layouts, and other information to adequately explain the concept, along with preliminary materials and finishes.
We may also require input from any required consultants - i.e. Structural Engineer, Naval Architect, or Project Manager.
At the end of this step we’ll have a series of sketches and scale drawings that can be used to get a reality check on cost and schedule so you can make an informed decision about the best way forward for you.

Step 4- REFINE THE DESIGN
The schematic design from the previous stage is refined and fully detailed to meet your requirements. We finalize the style and function of the project, including integration of any required structural design and all of the materials and finishes to be used. Documents are presented to you to adequately explain the developed design. The approved concept design drawings are translated over to scaled CAD drawings and 3D models, detailing the proposal's full design, layout and appearance. Final drawing plans, elevations, hardware and material spec of each renovated space are approved and prepared for a detailed bid package.

Step 5- PICK A YARD
Now that we’re comfortable that the design meet both the objectives and the budget, it’s time to find a shipyard or other contractors. We will gladly recommend some trusted, high-quality shipyards with whom we’ve worked in the past to supplement your own list. Once you’ve received their estimates, you make your selection.

Step 6- CONSTRUCTION AND COMPLETION
Now the project is full steam ahead. We go to work producing the final detailed construction drawings from which the yachts interior and components will be built.
To ensure the original vision is carried throughout every detail of your yacht, we can supervise all aspects of the construction. We can also help you select the final details of fit and finish. This is really the rewarding part of the process, as it represents the final step in transforming the vessel into your yacht.
